Scalable Reasoning System

The Scalable Reasoning System (SRS) is a software framework to support lightweight visual analytic solutions. The framework is highly extensible to bring both data and analytical capabilities to anyone, anywhere. SRS provides management of large information collections, rapid modeling and analysis capabilities, and interactive visualizations that offer intuitive ways to explore information. SRS was initially developed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to support rapid application deployment to users that needed access from a variety of locations to a rapidly broadening and changing set of analytical capabilities. SRS can be integrated into stand-alone applications or into a service-oriented architecture (SOA), thereby providing users with easy access to information and visual analytic models, all through a web browser or hand-held device. SRS can connect to a wide range of common web or database repositories or, with little effort, new plug-ins can be developed for a custom solution. The information accessed through the framework, both structured and unstructured, is analyzed in computational modules to uncover relationships, patterns, and trends in the data. Custom SRS applications can be assembled from a library of analytic modules, meaning that each application is optimized to meet critical requirements. Whether the information is simply unstructured text or contains temporal, numeric, categorical or geospatial properties, the analytic models and visualizations both provide a high-level summarization of the information space and enable the user to drill down to explore and discover more subtle patterns and relationships.
With SRS, information collections that are under-utilized or are difficult to access can now easily be brought in front of users in a form that is simple to learn and easy to use, all through a rich and powerful visual interface. SRS can be used to develop a complete end-to-end visual analytics solution supporting data query and ingest, interactive visual analysis, and result dissemination. An example SRS application using a web interface is available for exploration. The components of the framework can also be deployed a la carte and integrated into existing solutions and frameworks. SRS is a highly configurable and extensible system that simply provides the information users request in a form users can understand to provide the insights users need.

Web Client

Users interact with their information through the web client component, or web application, of SRS. The purpose is to provide a platform for lightweight analytics, which will provide insight into the client's data.

Mobile Client

The mobile client component of SRS is our client application that is installed on mobile devices. The purpose is to provide a communications platform that will enable users to gather and interact with information.

Backend Component

The SRS backend component comprises the hardware and software used by the mobile and web clients. Included in the backend are common project tasks such as version tracking, deployment, and SRS-specific items such as the server code, web services, and security integration.
